Piano Programs for Children
Readiness
How do you know when your child is old enough to begin piano? As a rule of thumb, I hold that when they are old enough to read words in school, they are able to learn to read music. If you are unsure, I’ll be happy to meet with you and your child to assess his or her readiness.
Once a child is ready to begin, you can choose between individual and partner lessons.
Individual Piano Lessons
Individual lessons tailor the learning process to the style and interest of your child. While any child can benefit enormously from an individual lesson, they are especially important if your child has a learning disability.
The student comes weekly with 45 minutes devoted to the lesson and 15 minutes allowed for “music lab” time using a computer or digital keyboard to reinforce the concepts and skills introduced during the lesson.
Partner Piano Lessons
Partner lessons allow two students at the same level of ability and close in age to study together. This more economical approach has the added advantage of providing a built-in duet partner. It is also a more social approach to learning, which is often appealing to children, partly because it keeps the focus from being entirely on them individually. Partners play musical games together to reinforce learning. Lessons last one hour and include music lab time within the lesson to allow me to have one-on-one time with each student.
